Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
A Guided Path Toward Healing, Insight, and Inner Transformation
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic therapeutic approach that blends the power of ketamine with the safety and depth of intentional psychotherapy. This modality allows many clients to access breakthroughs more readily, deepen emotional processing, and experience meaningful shifts that often translate into sustained improvements in mood, clarity, and wellbeing.
As a KAP provider, I guide the psychotherapeutic portion of your journey while collaborating closely with Journey Clinical, whose medical team oversees all medical aspects of care. Their clinicians ensure safety at every step—evaluating your eligibility, tailoring your treatment plan, prescribing ketamine, and monitoring outcomes—so that you receive fully supported, evidence-based care from beginning to end.
What Is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a legal, safe, and effective medicine increasingly used to treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, and patterns of emotional stuckness. Unlike many traditional medications, ketamine’s antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects can emerge within 1–2 hours of treatment.
Ketamine works through two key mechanisms:
NMDA receptor inhibition – interrupting rigid thought loops, emotional constriction, and entrenched depressive patterns.
AMPA receptor stimulation & neuroplasticity – promoting new synaptic connections and strengthening neural pathways that regulate mood, resilience, and perspective.
This combination allows the brain to become more flexible, receptive, and open to therapeutic transformation.
Although ketamine can be administered in multiple forms (IV, IM, nasal spray, or lozenges), Journey Clinical uses only the sublingual lozenge form, which is safe, well-tolerated, and ideal for a psychotherapy-centered model.
What Does a Ketamine Experience Feel Like?
Most people describe ketamine sessions as gentle, expansive, and pleasantly dissociative—a temporary shifting of attention inward that softens the grip of ordinary consciousness. The medicine experience typically lasts about 45 minutes.
During this time, you may feel:
A sense of floating or being “far from” the body
Spaciousness around former emotional blockages
A softened inner critic
Connection to symbolic, intuitive, or imaginal material
A heightened capacity for insight and self-compassion
Motor and verbal abilities naturally decrease, which is why you’ll be comfortably reclined and supported throughout the session.
As the medicine settles, we transition into integration work—a grounded conversation where you explore what arose, make meaning of insights, and begin to translate the experience into real-world change. Even when the journey feels ineffable or hard to put into words, clients consistently report that the clarity of the insights lingers long after the session is complete.
What Your KAP Process Involves:
1. Medical Evaluation
Journey Clinical’s medical team assesses your medical history, discusses your goals, and determines whether you are a good candidate for ketamine-assisted thera.
2. Personalized Treatment Plan
If eligible, your prescribing clinician designs a plan tailored to your needs and prescribes sublingual ketamine lozenges.
3. Preparation Sessions
We clarify intentions, set therapeutic anchors, and establish psychological and emotional safety before your first medicine session.
4. Medicine Sessions (KAP)
You take your ketamine dose in a safe, supportive therapeutic setting while I guide the emotional, relational, and meaning-making aspects of the journey.
5. Integration Sessions
Integration is where ketamine’s neuroplastic window becomes truly powerful. We translate your insights into new narratives, new choices, and new patterns—supporting long-term transformation.
Why People Choose KAP
Clients often turn to KAP when they:
Feel stuck despite traditional therapy
Want to accelerate healing from depression or anxiety
Seek deeper insight into longstanding patterns
Are working through trauma or emotional constriction
Desire a more spiritual, intuitive, or symbolic approach to healing
Want support inside an experiential growth process—not just symptom management
KAP opens a pathway to inner worlds that talk therapy alone cannot always access, allowing healing to unfold at emotional, psychological, somatic, and even existential levels.
A Sacred, Science-Supported Pathway
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy sits at the intersection of neuroscience and depth psychology—unlocking neuroplasticity while opening the psyche’s natural wisdom. When paired with guided integration, KAP provides a powerful environment for change that feels both grounded and expansive.
If you’re curious whether KAP is right for you, I’d be honored to walk with you in this process.
